Sunday 30th December 2012 v Beechwood Albion

A surprising late game of 2012 (the latest date we’ve ever played) after Beechwood Albion contacted us on the Thursday looking for a friendly.

We have played Beechwood, under various guises, in the past and they are run by James Smith who first came to prominence in the Athletico Bilbino team. They now play in a Sunday Amateur League and we were happy to play them.

On the Thursday we had a large squad but by Sunday we had a lot of call offs and no regular keeper at kick off.

Lenny volunteered to go in goals and he had Arthur, CC, Paul and debutant Ross Dunbar (another of the Spicy’s) in front of him. Gary, LHD, Craig and Foxy, in a rare appearance, were in midfield with Sebo and Sean up front.

Missing a recognised goalkeeper and without a number of players who always play, we struggled to get a grip on the game and Beechwood were 3-0 up before the half hour mark with three very good finishes from their players.

The guys kept digging in though but we weren’t helped by losing Foxy to injury and Sean to illness which saw him throw up in the centre circle.

Substitute Danny got a goal back on the stroke of half time when he slammed home Gary's corner from close range and had the first half gone on for another five minutes I think we'd have been right back in the game.

Andy D arrived from work to play in goals in the second half but Albion scored a fourth at the beginning of the second half to stifle any comeback and then notched a late fifth from a poorly defended corner.

A disappointing result to bring down the curtain on 2012 but, despite those missing, we gave a good account of ourselves.
