Another game against the old guys from Garrowhill, this time on the 3g at Shettleston.

Fourteen in the squad but only eleven to pick from at the start of the game as one of our cars was late, the fact that Boab Shimmons, who apparently doesn’t have an alarm clock, was a passenger is purely coincidence

Gee Galindo was in the starting eleven in central defence for his first game outfield since January after his successful knee operation. This meant that Wee Al was at left back for the first time in ages, apparently his favoured position.

With Ally, CC and Boab all hastily getting changed The Goat was on the right wing where he would be trying to make an impact on the game with his considerable presence.

Garrowhill included John MacKay in their team, a familiar face from the 90’s when he used to regularly play for us.

The game started off slowly with the bulk of possession going our way as we took charge of the midfield without threatening.

LHD was first to get a chance when he burst from midfield, showing a rare turn of pace, but he shot over the bar.

Garrowhill’s bulky forward was the next one to show a fair turn of pace and it was too much for our defence and he opened the scoring after about twenty minutes.

The lead didn’t last long though as we came storming back and Gary burst forward down the right then cut the ball back to Craig. His first shot was blocked but Craig blasted the rebound into the top corner for our equaliser.

The floodgates had opened, as they always do in games against Garrowhill, and a great cross and close range header put the home side ahead again.

Back we came and a long range effort from Ross was tipped round the post by Big Jim in the Garrow goal. From the corner Craig had a header cleared off the line.

A couple of minutes before half time we were level again when Ally, on for the Goat, crossed and Sebo touched the ball onto to Lenny to score.

Lenny nearly put us ahead just after this when his header brought out a great save by Big Jim who was playing out of his skin.

We were in the ascendancy but somehow managed to lose a goal on the half time whistle when a long range shot crept in and it was 3-2 to the Garrow at the break.

CC and Boab came on at the interval but we stopped playing in the second half (not because of the subs) and fell away badly in the lovely Shettleston sunshine.

Wee Al and Boab cleared efforts off the line before we went four two down then, with twenty minutes to go, it was five as a rebound went in after David had saved a shot.

A shot from a corner saw yet another goal as we collapsed completely before Craig shot from long range near the end to make it 7-3 to Garrowhill in a game we had controlled for a good bit.

In a desperate bid to try and get back in the game in the second half even Gee was sent forward but his lack of match fitness told in the end and he had to come off knackered.

A dreadful second half performance and another high scoring game against the old lags.

After sandwiches and a few drinks in the JB McAlpine Pavilion everyone was a lot happier.
